I walked away, as I am so well known round there, and she obviously would have created a scene. She came along. She wouldn’t go and came right to the door, still demanding 30s. When I opened the door, she forced her way in. I went into the kitchen and she was still on about this 30s. I tried to get her out and she picked up a frying pan to hit me. I closed with her and there was a struggle and she fell back on the chair. It was a deck chair. There was a piece of rope hanging from the chair. I don’t remember what happened, but I must have gone haywire.

The next thing I remember was she was lying still in the chair with the rope round her neck. I don’t remember taking it off. It couldn’t have been tight. I left her there and went into the front room. After that I had a cup of tea and went to bed. I got up in the morning and went into the kitchen and washed and shaved. She was still in the chair. I believe I made some tea.
